The photo database contains all the photos from the book, Plants and Landscapes for Summer-Dry Climates, and you can search by plant name or garden terms such as flower or path. If you search for a plant that does not come up, for instance Hosta, it is very likely the plant is not suitable for summer-dry climates and uses too much water. If you have a plant genus you would like to add to our database, please let us know.

In the book, every plant genus has a least one photo, but as any gardener knows, that is just the tip of any plant list in such temperate climates. Many genera may have dozens of species or distinctive cultivars that will prosper in summer-dry climates. One photo of one specimen is not representative of the growth habit of other members of the genus, so do consult the book or other references on the Resouce page for information as to how other plants will look when grown out.
